Who’s behind all that?

After more than 25 years working as an advertising photographer in Switzerland and most recently in Germany, I have decided to pursue my passion and second mainstay more intensively and have been working full-time in the wine industry since the end of 2019. And no, not because of Covid or the general prejudice of the drinking artist, - no, but because wine has always aroused my curiosity. The cultivation and development, - the craft of this great product. This fascination also reflects what I have always seen as a common thread in my photographic career: A handcrafted, honest and beautiful product that fascinates me.

My interest in wine began a long time ago, when my boss at the time gave me two bottles of Primitivo di Manduria "Sessantanni" as a farewell gift. In the meantime, other bottles have been added, but it was French red wine that really sparked my passion. It was a wedding present from a friend, Le Zaparel "Le Chapeau". This blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan. Bam, -immediately I was standing with both feet on dusty, French soil. Almost meditative, calm. I feel this power, this seductiveness and an unfathomable depth every time I open a bottle of wine from this region. And with this blog I would like to pursue my taste. To know what I like, where the wines come from, who produces them and where I like to drink them. Listen to stories and share them with others.

And I finally did it. After 5 years of further training, with small interruptions in between, the time has come: I can call myself “Weinakademiker”, (aka DipWSET). It's a great training programme that I can warmly recommend to all wine enthusiasts. I graduated this spring and completed the programme at the Weinakademie Österreich. Not only is the diploma course in German, but there is also a much greater focus on the European wine-growing regions, especially Germany. Of course, Austria is also clearly represented and I can still remember very well the study trip to the Wachau and my subsequent 14-day stay in quarantine at Vienna airport. So, as you can see, it was an unforgettable experience. Let's see what happens next...
